About Sunflower Microgreens Seeds
Sunflower microgreens are one of the easiest ones to start with. The shoots come up thick and juicy, with a mild nutty taste that goes well with salads, sandwiches, rotis and chutneys. These are whole sunflower seeds kept for sowing, so they sprout evenly and give you a full tray of crunchy greens in just over a week.
Benefits / Uses
Ready to cut in about a week to ten days
Crunchy, nutty shoots for salads, sandwiches, wraps and smoothies
Needs no garden, just a tray and a bright window
Good for kids, beginners and small kitchens
One 10 g pack is enough for a small tray
Sowing and Care for Sunflower Microgreens
Soaking: Soak the seeds in water for 6-8 hours before sowing. This helps them sprout evenly.
Sowing: Spread the soaked seeds closely over a moist growing mix, press them down lightly and cover with a thin layer of mix, about 0.2-0.5 cm.
Watering: Mist with a spray bottle once or twice a day. Keep the mix moist, not soggy.
Light: After sprouting, keep the tray in bright indirect light. Turn it now and then so the shoots grow straight.
Harvesting: Cut just above the soil with clean scissors when the shoots are 3-4 inches tall and have opened their first leaves. See the sowing guide image for step by step instructions.
Precautions While Growing
Do not sow too thick, as crowded seeds can get mouldy
Avoid over-watering and keep the tray in a place with some airflow
Use a clean tray and fresh growing mix each time
Rinse the harvested greens before eating and store them in the fridge
