About Green Amaranthus Microgreens Seeds
Green amaranthus is the familiar thotakura, chaulai or thandu keerai that most Indian homes cook with, grown here as a tender microgreen. The shoots are soft, mild and slightly earthy, with a fresh leafy taste. The seeds are very small, so a little goes a long way, and a single 10 g pack can fill several trays.
Benefits / Uses
Ready to cut in about 8 to 12 days
Soft, mild shoots for salads, sandwiches, dals, parathas and stir-fries
Needs no garden, just a tray and a bright window
The seeds are tiny, so one pack gives you many sowings
Easy for beginners and for growing with kids
Sowing and Care for Green Amaranthus Microgreens
Sowing: No soaking needed. Sprinkle the seeds thinly and evenly over a moist growing mix. They are very small, so do not bury them. Press lightly and cover with a very thin layer of mix, or just mist over them.
Watering: Mist with a spray bottle once or twice a day. Keep the mix moist, not soggy, and avoid heavy pouring, which can wash the seeds into clumps.
Light: Once the seeds sprout, keep the tray in bright indirect light. Turn it now and then so the shoots grow straight.
Harvesting: Cut just above the soil with clean scissors when the shoots are 2-3 inches tall and the first leaves have opened. See the sowing guide image for step by step instructions.
Precautions While Growing
Sow thinly, as thick patches can turn mouldy
Avoid over-watering and keep the tray where air can move around it
Use a clean tray and fresh growing mix each time
Rinse the harvested greens before eating and store them in the fridge
