Specifications of Desi Coriander (Dhaniya) Seeds
This Desi Coriander variety is a fast-growing, aromatic herb essential to Indian cooking, used fresh as a garnish and flavoring in nearly every savory dish, from chutneys to curries. It's a cool-season crop that grows quickly and can be harvested repeatedly by cutting outer leaves, or allowed to mature further for coriander seed (a key spice in its own right).
Benefits / Uses
Fresh leaves used as garnish and flavoring in curries, chutneys, and salads
Fast-growing — ready to harvest within a month
Dual-purpose crop — grow for fresh leaves or let mature for coriander seed spice
Low-maintenance, beginner-friendly herb
Well-suited to grow bags, containers, and small garden beds
Planting and Care for Coriander
Sowing: Sow seeds ¼-½ inch deep in well-drained soil. Lightly crushing seeds before sowing (to split the outer husk) can improve and speed up germination.
Growing: Water regularly with light, frequent watering. Coriander prefers cooler temperatures and can bolt (flower) quickly in hot weather, so timing the sowing to cooler months helps prolong leaf harvest.
Harvesting: Begin harvesting leaves 30-40 days after sowing by cutting outer leaves, leaving the center to continue growing. If growing for seed, allow the plant to flower and form seed heads, harvesting once they turn brown and dry.
Precautions While Growing Coriander
Sow in cooler months where possible, as heat causes the plant to bolt and leaves to turn bitter
Water consistently, as inconsistent moisture can also trigger early bolting
Watch for aphids and leaf-eating pests; use organic pest control methods where needed
Harvest regularly to encourage continued leaf growth before the plant flowers
